How to play an M3U playlist on Android, Fire TV and Android TV
Got a playlist link instead of a username and password? This is how to use it.
What an M3U playlist is
An M3U (or M3U8) playlist is a text file listing channels and their stream addresses. Providers usually give you a link to it rather than the file. Many playlists also point to a TV guide in XMLTV format, often called an EPG link.
Add it to RIPTV
- Install RIPTV from Google Play, or the Amazon Appstore on a Fire TV.
- On the setup screen choose M3U playlist.
- Paste the playlist link. If your provider gave you a separate EPG or XMLTV link, paste that too.
- Choose Connect. RIPTV groups channels by the categories in the playlist and loads up to 7 days of TV guide.
Get the most out of a playlist
- Long-press a channel to add it to your favourites. Favourites get their own row on the Home screen.
- Recently watched channels appear first in the Live TV row, so your usual channels are one click away.
- If the playlist includes catch-up information, past programmes in the guide can be played again.
- If the link is really an Xtream Codes playlist (it contains get.php?username=), RIPTV can use the full Xtream login for films and series with posters.
A note on what RIPTV is
RIPTV is a player. It doesn't come with channels, films or series: you add the IPTV service you already subscribe to. Only use services you have the right to watch.
Questions
Can I load a playlist file instead of a link?
RIPTV works with playlist links. If you only have a file, most providers can give you the link from their customer area.
Why is my TV guide empty?
The playlist needs an EPG (XMLTV) address, either inside the playlist or entered separately. Ask your provider for their EPG link.
