How to set up IPTV on Google TV (step by step)

Google TV devices make a great home for your IPTV service. Here's how to install RIPTV and get your channels, TV guide, films and series on screen.

What you need

  • A Google TV device: Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV Streamer, or a television with Google TV built in, such as many Sony, TCL and Hisense sets.
  • Your IPTV login from your provider: a server address, username and password (Xtream Codes), or a playlist link (M3U).
  • About ten minutes, most of it spent on the one-off settings below.

Install RIPTV on Google TV

  1. On your Google TV, go to Apps > Search for apps (or open the Play Store) and search for RIPTV.
  2. Choose RIPTV, then Install. It's free.
  3. When it's installed, choose Open. Google Play keeps it up to date from then on.

If RIPTV doesn't show up in the Play Store

  1. Some TVs don't list every app. Install the version from riptv.app instead: open the Play Store, search for Downloader (by AFTVnews) and install it.
  2. Turn on Developer options: go to Settings > System > About, scroll to Android TV OS build and press Select on it seven times until you see a message saying you're a developer.
  3. Go back to Settings > Apps > Security & restrictions > Unknown sources and turn on Downloader.
  4. Open Downloader, enter the code 1519638 and choose Go. You can also type riptv.app/tv into Downloader's address box instead.
  5. When the download finishes, choose Install, then Open.

Menu names vary a little

Google TV menus aren't identical on every device. On some TVs, About sits under Settings > System, on others under Settings > Device Preferences. Unknown sources may be called Install unknown apps. If you can't find a setting, search your TV's settings for "unknown" or "developer".

Add your IPTV service

  1. Open RIPTV. Choose the server login (Xtream Codes) and enter the server, username and password from your provider, or choose M3U playlist and paste your playlist link.
  2. Choose Connect. RIPTV loads your channels, TV guide, films and series, and adds posters, descriptions and trailers.
  3. Long-press any channel to add it to your favourites so it's always near the top.

Already using RIPTV on your phone?

With Premium, open Profile > Set up a TV on your phone and enter the code shown on the TV. Your login is copied across, end-to-end encrypted, so you don't have to type a long server address with the remote.

Tips for Google TV

  • Chromecast with Google TV has limited storage. If installs fail, clear space by removing apps you don't use.
  • If channels buffer, move the device closer to your router, use 5 GHz Wi-Fi, or use an Ethernet adapter.
  • If you installed RIPTV with Downloader, you can uninstall Downloader afterwards.

A note on what RIPTV is

RIPTV is a player. It doesn't come with channels, films or series: you add the IPTV service you already subscribe to. Only use services you have the right to watch.
