How to set up IPTV on an Android TV box or TV
Android TV boxes and televisions run RIPTV well. This guide takes you from a fresh box to watching your own IPTV service with a full TV guide.
What you need
- An Android TV device: a box such as the Xiaomi Mi Box or onn 4K box, or a television with Android TV built in, such as many Philips sets.
- Your IPTV login: a server, username and password (Xtream Codes), or a playlist link (M3U).
- A remote, and about ten minutes.
Install RIPTV on Android TV
- Open the Play Store on your Android TV and search for RIPTV.
- Choose RIPTV, then Install. It's free.
- When it's installed, choose Open. Google Play keeps it up to date from then on.
If RIPTV doesn't show up in the Play Store
- Some boxes don't list every app. Install the version from riptv.app instead: open the Play Store, search for Downloader (by AFTVnews) and install it.
- Turn on Developer options: go to Settings > System > About (or Settings > Device Preferences > About), find Android TV OS build and press Select on it seven times.
- Go to Settings > Apps > Security & restrictions > Unknown sources and turn on Downloader.
- Open Downloader, enter the code 1519638 and choose Go, or type riptv.app/tv into the address box.
- When the download finishes, choose Install, then Open.
If you can't find a setting
Manufacturers move Android TV menus around. Unknown sources might be under Device Preferences, Security, or Apps, and it's sometimes called Install unknown apps. Older boxes may have one Unknown sources switch for everything rather than one per app. If you're stuck, search your box's settings for "unknown".
Add your IPTV service
- Open RIPTV. Choose the server login (Xtream Codes) and enter the server, username and password from your provider, or choose M3U playlist and paste your playlist link.
- Choose Connect. RIPTV loads your channels, TV guide, films and series, and adds posters, descriptions and trailers.
- Long-press any channel to add it to your favourites so it's always near the top.
Getting a smooth picture
- A wired Ethernet connection is the most reliable. Many boxes have a port; otherwise use 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
- If live channels stutter, try the other Live TV stream format in RIPTV's Settings > Playback.
- Older or very cheap boxes can struggle with 4K streams. If 4K channels stutter but HD is fine, the box is likely the limit.
A note on what RIPTV is
RIPTV is a player. It doesn't come with channels, films or series: you add the IPTV service you already subscribe to. Only use services you have the right to watch.
