How to set up IPTV on an Nvidia Shield

The Nvidia Shield is one of the most capable Android TV boxes around. Here's how to put RIPTV on it and connect your IPTV service.

What you need

  • An Nvidia Shield TV or Shield TV Pro. Both run Android TV.
  • Your IPTV login: a server, username and password (Xtream Codes), or a playlist link (M3U).
  • About ten minutes.

Install RIPTV on the Shield

  1. Open the Play Store on the Shield and search for RIPTV.
  2. Choose RIPTV, then Install. It's free.
  3. When it's installed, choose Open. Google Play keeps it up to date from then on.

If RIPTV doesn't show up in the Play Store

  1. Install the version from riptv.app instead: open the Play Store, search for Downloader (by AFTVnews) and install it.
  2. Turn on Developer options: go to Settings > Device Preferences > About, find Build and press Select on it seven times.
  3. Go to Settings > Device Preferences > Security & restrictions > Unknown sources and turn on Downloader.
  4. Open Downloader, enter the code 1519638 and choose Go, or type riptv.app/tv into the address box.
  5. When the download finishes, choose Install, then Open.

Menu names on your Shield

Shield software updates sometimes rename or move settings. If you don't see Security & restrictions under Device Preferences, look under Apps, or search the settings for "unknown".

Add your IPTV service

  1. Open RIPTV. Choose the server login (Xtream Codes) and enter the server, username and password from your provider, or choose M3U playlist and paste your playlist link.
  2. Choose Connect. RIPTV loads your channels, TV guide, films and series, and adds posters, descriptions and trailers.
  3. Long-press any channel to add it to your favourites so it's always near the top.

Making the most of the Shield

  • The Shield has an Ethernet port. Plug it in for the most stable live TV.
  • With Premium, multi-view lets you watch several channels at once. Each one uses one of your provider's connections.
  • With Premium, you can record programmes from the guide, as long as your plan has a free connection.
  • If you already use RIPTV on your phone, Premium's Set up a TV copies your login across with a code, end-to-end encrypted.

A note on what RIPTV is

RIPTV is a player. It doesn't come with channels, films or series: you add the IPTV service you already subscribe to. Only use services you have the right to watch.
